The Cardinals just don't swing-and-miss

With Shaun Marcum getting ready to start Game 6 of the NLCS with the Brewers' season on the line, a lot has been made about Marcum's inability to draw swinging strikes over the past month or so. In both of his postseason starts, it was pretty clear he wasn't fooling anyone -- his stuff lacks movement, and anything left in the zone is being pounded.
He isn't the only one that gets hit hard by the Cards, though -- both Zack Greinke and Yovani Gallardo have had trouble missing bats against St. Louis.
Greinke's season-lows in swinging strikes:
| DATE | OPP | SwSt |
| 6/28 | @ NYY | 0 |
| 9/28 | vs PIT | 1 |
| 10/14 | @ STL | 2 |
| 9/7 | @ STL | 6 |
| 8/7 | @ HOU | 6 |
| 8/22 | @ PIT | 7 |
| 8/1 | vs STL | 8 |
| 10/9 | vs STL | 8 |
The Cards are also all over Gallardo's list:
| DATE | OPP | SwSt |
| 10/12 | @ STL | 3 |
| 6/19 | @ BOS | 4 |
| 4/10 | vs CHC | 4 |
| 6/9 | vs NYM | 5 |
| 5/29 | vs SFG | 5 |
| 4/5 | vs ATL | 5 |
| 8/11 | @ STL | 6 |
| 9/1 | vs STL | 7 |
And Shaun Marcum:
| DATE | OPP | SwSt |
| 10/14 | vs STL | 2 |
| 8/19 | @ NYM | 2 |
| 6/17 | @ BOS | 3 |
| 6/7 | vs NYM | 3 |
| 8/30 | vs STL | 4 |
| 7/9 | vs CIN | 4 |
| 8/2 | vs STL | 6 |
| 7/4 | vs ARI | 6 |
Probably not all that surprising, since the Cardinals had the 7th-lowest Swinging Strike percentage as a team this year (and 2nd-lowest in the NL). They're going to make you work, and you need to turn balls in play into outs against them -- something the Brewers have failed to do throughout the series, but especially in Game 5.
