Brewers' quietly stocking Nashville with new pitchers

While a lot of the coverage on the Brewers' starting rotation for 2010 has focused on the acquisition of Randy Wolf and Doug Davis, Brewers' GM Doug Melvin has been quietly changing the faces of Nashville Sounds' rotation...or, at least changing the contenders.

Recall last September, I wrote that Chris Narveson, Mike Burns, Josh Butler and Chris Cody were the front-runners for the Sounds' rotation, with Chris Capuano and Mike Jones battling for the last spot, leaving Tim Dillard, Lindsay Gulin, and Chase Wright looking for new gigs.

But Doug Melvin has thrown some new faces into the mix: John Halama, who sat out '09 but pitched well in Winter Ball; Cameron Loe, once with the Rangers, will also be in Maryvale as a non-roster invite.  Last month, Melvin added former Oriole Chris Waters (3-1. 3.98 in 7 starts with AAA Norfolk in '09), followed by Marco Estrada from the Nationals' organization earlier this past week.

The Sounds' roster on MILB.com lists Burns, Cody, Dillard (who cleared waivers but could not become a free agent as I had written earlier in error), Jones, and Waters as pitchers who were starters last year; Narveson is almost surely going to be added to that list after Spring Training, as should Estrada...making Butler, Capuano, Halama, and Loe nos. 8-11...so eleven arms battling for five spots...should be interesting to see how this plays out.
