Wednesday night: Cubs help out by losing...but Crew does, too.

Written by Jaymes Langrehr on .

Brewers nation cheered upon hearing that the Marlins dumped the Cubs. But the bullpen collapsed again in the season finale against the Cardinals, bringing the elimination number/magic number down to 3, as the Brewers remain 2 games back. Last series of the year--4 against the Padres, whose playoff hopes are 1 back in the NL West race, but 1 up in the Wild Card race. The Cubs still control their own fate--if the Cubs win just 3 of their remaining 4 games, they take the division, regardless of how the Brewers do. The Cubs need to lose at least 2 of their remaining 4 games--and the Brewers to win all 4 remaining games--for the Brewers to get into the post-season. Rookie Yovani Gallardo sees Jack Cassell (1-1, 4.00) tonight...and the Brewers will know how the Cubs did before the first pitch, as the Cubs finish up with the Marlins in an afternoon game in Miami.
