Four run first dooms Gallardo, Crew
Another night in San Fran...another big inning for the opponents in the first innning.
Saturday night saw rookie phenom Yovani Gallardo give up five straight singles leading to 4 ER's in the first inning, and Brewers' hitters could not figure out Giants' pitcher Kevin Correia, resulting in a 6-2 loss for the Brewers. Doug Davis kept the Cubs in check, however, so the Cubs' lead remains at 1.5 games. The Cards, however, cut their deficit to just 3 back of the Cubs.
More disturbing to me, personally, is that the Brewers are now 65-64 on the year...just one game above .500.
Dave Bush (10-9, 4.93) gets Tim Lincecum (7-4, 3.91) in Sunday's matinee finale. Lincecum is 1-1, 4.50, with 14 K's in 12 IP's vs. the Crew this year, while Bush is 0-1, 4.50, with 7 K's in 6 IP. MVP candidate Prince Fielder returns from his 2-game suspension for breathing too heavy on an umpire. Needless to say, the Brewers need a "W" badly, so as to take some momentum into their 3-game night series at Wrigley.
